The myth of Amaterasu
Who is Amaterasu?
Amaterasu Omikami, called She of the Celestial Brightness, The Great Woman and Patroness-of the Midday and the One who Reigns in the Plain of the Celestial Kingdom, acted as guardian of the land and cultivated rice fields. The amazing bright goddess also presided over the circle of the weavers in the great Hall of the Weavers of Heaven.
A terrible situation
However, his brother, Susanowo, the god of the sea and storms, resented Amaterasu's manifest power. One day Susanowo trampled on the heavenly rice fields that his sister had just planted and then defecated inside their holy temple. The Sky Cave
Plunged into rage and fear, Amaterasu took refuge in the sky cave, shutting the gate tightly and stripping the world of its light and warmth. Only the endless night remained. Without Amaterasu, nothing would grow on the face of the Earth anymore.
Gathering of Deities
To prevent this, eight hundred divinities gathered in front of the cave with the purpose of trying to get the goddess to leave her refuge, but to no avail. Finally, Ama-no Uzume, the goddess of joy and dance, proposed a plan. Uzume climbed onto a huge barrel that resounded like a drum and started some dance steps.
Dancing to create music
The goddess was rhythmically tapping her feet while dancing a euphoric dance and taking off her underwear. So when had already caught the attention of the eight hundred divinities, she took off her kimono and showed her vulva. The gods laughed and clapped and shouted; the roosters crowed and the roar of hilarity reached the ears of Amaterasu, who was still hidden in the cave.
The mirror
Stung by curiosity, the goddess went to see what was happening outside, and found in front of his face a mirror that had been placed at the entrance of the cave. Amaterasu's light reflecting off the pristine surface was so intense that blinded her, and the divinity was forced to venture outside.
